Private Yoga Sessions Just for you!

What is the Difference between the different styles of Yoga and movement sessions offered?

I have trained in several different styles of yoga. I primarily use Hatha, Yin, Restorative, Yoga Nidra, Qigong, and Yoga Therapy. Each one-on-one Session is personalized depending on your goals. My most recent training was to become a Yoga Therapist!

How is Yoga Therapy different from a Yoga Private session? A yoga private session will be with one style of yoga and more generalized to your needs. Usually 1 or 2 sessions. On the other hand, Yoga Therapy uses several different yoga models to determine what modalities would best fit your unique goals for a greater personalized healing. These would be several sessions towards your goal over 3-4 months.

For example, you come in for a private yoga session for low back pain and stiffness and you've chosen the Cuppasana private session. We would use cupping therapy in combination with gentle stretching in the form of Yin yoga. Yin Yoga are poses/posture/ shapes held for 2-3min. Props may be used to help with relaxing into the pose. The purpose of this style would be to find stillness and stretch the low back fascia, tendons, ligaments, and joints by finding stillness with longer holds.

If you choose Restorative session, we will use props to try to take away any discomfort you may be feeling in your low back in different floor poses while listening as I play sound healing bowls. Each pose would be for 10-20 minutes. The purpose for each pose/posture/ shape would be to find a position that would ease the low back pain but not necessarily stretch it.

If you choose a Hatha session, We will use a slow more flowy style of movement where there could be pauses in different poses/postures/shapes but not necessarily longer holds before moving onto the next. The poses/postures/shapes would be targeted toward stretch the low back muscles.

If you choose a Self-care session, we will use therapy balls and foam rollers to teach you massaging (Myofascial Release) techniques for you to use at home to help decrease your low back pain. Often times my clients are amazed at the different ways you can use these tools at home. I often get "I didn't realize how good this could feel instead of hurting so much".

If you choose a Yoga Therapy Session, we will use different yoga modules to access and find a combination of techniques to help with low back pain which could include, muscle testing, gentle movements (stretching and strengthening used in a particular way), breath work, meditations (which can help decrease perception of pain), self-care therapy balls/foam rollers, and lifestyle adjustments. This would be several sessions over a 3-4 month period and much more personalized.

Yoga Nidra involves laying still on your back in a resting pose with props for optimum comfort while listening to a guided meditation. There are different styles of these specific guided meditation that we would try after being given an assessment. Yoga Nidra can be helpful for pain, autoimmune diseases, PTSD, anxiety, insomnia, trauma, and other conditions by changing our brainwave states for finding deep rest and to facilitate healing.

In some of the Friendscapes or Solo Escapes, I sometimes use a generalized theme like the low back and combine several shorter sequences from above to give a general idea of what could be helpful for some people as a sort of trial. A lady then could choose to come in for a more targeted longer sequence of their favorite part. (Ie a 60 min session of self-healing therapy balls and foam rolling session to find and target their specific issue or a 60 min qigong therapeutic movement session)

Qigong is another style of therapeutic movements that uses the tradition Chinese medicine module (like acupuncture does) to help improve flexibility, strength, and unblock energy. Qigong and Yoga have a lot of cross over and similarities. I enjoy bringing both into the work I do.

All movement styles I use are beginner friendly with props and variations as needed! Yoga and qigong really are for every Body!

I look forward to sharing these gentle Therapeutic Movements styles with you!
