Are you wondering what exactly a yoga therapist does that is different from a yoga teacher?
Yoga therapy is geared to one-on-one sessions to work with specific emotional or physical health issues. We use a framework and different assessments to create a comprehensive specific plan for each individual to use at home to help manage their condition. We create a morning routine or customize it to fit into your day! Yoga Therapy is about 6-8 sessions over a 4–6 month timeframe. The initial time commitment at home is 20 minutes 4 to 5 days a week using one or more of the following: therapeutic exercises to strengthen or stretch muscle or regulate the nervous system, specific breathwork, specific meditations, and yoga nidra, therapy ball techniques, and lifestyle suggestions all geared toward your specific condition.
The goal is to equip you to manage your symptoms at home with the above techniques. We work with many conditions from pelvic floor, anxiety, depression, PTSD, sciatica, shoulder or neck issues to peri/ menopause symptoms, autoimmune, cancer, anger, osteoporosis and more.
As you can see the goal of yoga therapy is about easing physical and emotional conditions!
I've had this question a lot and wanted to clarify when working with me with yoga therapy focus is NOT seeking spiritual enlightenment. It is NOT a religion.
These techniques can be used no matter your spiritual path/ religion.
Yoga Therapy's focus is more on resetting the nervous system, releasing the fascia system, stretching and strengthening muscles (after an assessment), better balance, creating focus, body awareness, or increasing vitality, how to use your breath to help control our emotions, how to use meditation to help with pain relief or heal from trauma, and more. It's individual to each person's needs!
*****Please Note....Yoga Therapy is not a quick fix or one time fix (Although some benefits May be felt immediately). Yoga Therapy takes a commitment to yourself and to using these techniques on a regular basis at home to create the most optimal benefits. If you do not want to do these practices at home in between sessions, this service is not for you.
